Fashion in 2023
Take a look at this week's feature article about how the fashion industry is adapting in line with social standards this year!
As new styles emerge with old trends, the fashion industry is ever changing and evolving- more and more people are developing an interest in fashion, especially in 2023 when gender fluidity and norms are being pushed every day. In recent years we have seen an increase in male models, particularly exploring different styles and incorporating their own beliefs and cultures. It could be argued that male involvement in the fashion industry was kickstarted back in 2019, when former One Direction band member Zayn Malik was the first man to be on a Vogue front cover. This seemed to inspire the destruction of gender norms, and slowly introduce the ideas we now embrace in modern society. Today, it is not unusual to see cross-dressing, as shown in cycle 20 of America's Next Top Model; just like the women, men are accessorizing in bold, heavy-handed makeup and colorful nails. These breakthroughs and changes in the fashion industry have not only created a more diverse society, but also aided in the acceptance of sexuality.
It's not just about embracing new trends surrounding clothing- fashion has also evolved in terms of body image. Where we used to see slender, tall female models plastered on front covers, we now see all shapes and sizes. We frequently embrace plus-size models for both males and females, as well as females rocking shorter hair and males with ponytails. Women in fashion have taken a particular interest in projecting the message of strong femininity and independence, through showing love and acceptance to all bodies.
